Airblue pays tribute to world’s great philanthropist and humanitarian Mr. Abdul Sattar Edhi, who laid to rest with state honor on July 9.
The Board of Directors of Airblue have passed a resolution on July 8 to pay tribute to the iconic social worker. The Board has advised Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif in writing to name the new Islamabad airport as Edhi International Airport supported by legislative concurrence.
Airblue CEO Tariq Chaudhry said, “naming the new Islamabad airport as ‘Edhi International Airport’ would be a lasting tribute and confirmation of the values he consistently demonstrated during his lifetime.”
The Pakistani airline has taken this step in support of the petition filed for renaming the new Islamabad airport after Abdul Sattar Edhi. The airport is currently in under construction and will complete by the next year.
It is pertinent to mention here that 38,719 people have supported naming the airport after Abdul Sattar Edhi through an online petition at Change.org.
Donation for Edhi Foundation
Further to the resolution, Airblue announced a PKR 100 million donation to Edhi Foundation. These initiatives are nothing but a small gesture of gratitude from the airline to Mr. Edhi for his phenomenal efforts towards humanity, as stated on the airline website.
Meanwhile, there is a risk of lack of donations for Edhi Foundation as many people contribute to the organization because of Edhi’s personality and his work. Now when the philanthropist is no more, a decrease in the donations is anticipated.
