Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is planning to bring 3G/4G services in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B).
According to a PTA official, the authority will bring the next-generation mobile services (NGMS) services by February of 2018, reports The Express Tribune.
The arrival of 3G/4G technology will lead this region towards the digital revolution and will help them get benefit in the form of socio-economic reforms, especially in areas that are located alongside the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Now, people visiting the far-flung areas will be connected to the digital world which will boost the local trade, the tourism industry and can even bring about the adoption of e-commerce.
PTA to advance this project has already sought expressions of interest (EoI) for hiring a consultant or consultancy firm that will work out the base price and design of the 3G/4G auction.
AJK and G-B have already approved the policy for the introduction of 3G/4G services while PTA is looking for a local consultant who would be responsible for the consultation with the Pakistani telcos and the government to suggest the base price of the auction.
Pakistan now has 44.4 million 3G/4G subscribers across the country and with the inclusion of AJK and G-B, this number will grow further in the future
