After facing a considerable delay, the Excise Taxation and Narcotics Control Department (ETNCD) will replace the registration book with automated registration cards (ARC) by April 2018.
The project was previously planned to launch in November 2017 but like many government projects, it got delayed. The pilot project would start off with Lahore in March where the government plans to gradually replace the registration books with automated registration cards.
The Excise department after running out of the stock of registration books will stop issuing books altogether and instead will provide automated registration cards.
According to the Excise Department, ARC has 11 security features which are more than any other automated registration card in the world.
These security features are:
- Guilloche on both sides
- Pigment printing
- Metallic emblem
- Variable UV security printing
- Secure NFC Chip
- QR code
- Customize holographic security laminate
- Micro text
- Kinetic animation/flip image
- Customised tactile impression
The NFC chip on the automatic registration cards will verify and display the necessary information present on the card including token tax expiry date etc. Just like the registration book, ARC will only be valid for five years.
