The Punjab government has appointed Azfar Manzoor as chairman of Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB).
Mr. Manzoor is a grade 19 officer and belongs to Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS). He is waiting for posting in Services and General Administration department. However, the Punjab government has taken his services on deputation basis and appointed him as acting chairman of PITB.
Earlier, Dr. Habeeb-ur-Rehman Gillani had taken the charge from Dr. Umar Saif who was the founder of PITB and served five consecutive governments. Dr. Habeeb-ur-Rehman Gillani was presented with an additional charge of PITB as he is the chairman of the Planning and Development Department. The new notification has relieved him from additional duties.
Azfar Manzoor has got a brilliant education and professional background. He is basically an electrical and computer science engineer. Mr. Azfar is no novice to the technology sector as he is one of the pioneers in the ISP industry in Pakistan when he founded World Online (WOL) in the early days of the internet in Pakistan that was later sold to Orascom Group where he also performed duties along with his brother Amir Manzoor. Other than that he has served on the board for Universal Service Fund for over five years.
He studied from Aitchison College Lahore, LUMS and then completed his higher education from the MIT United States and is serving the federal government after passing CSS exam. Azfar has been holding the regional chair of MIT in Pakistan and has worked extensively in establishing a relationship between top alma mater and Pakistani Citizens.
After qualifying CSS, Azfar has been presented with diversified fields where his input has brought significant transformation in the public sector. Hailing from a background of Information Technology, we expect that PITB will perform high and will achieve new horizons under his leadership.
