Ride-hailing taxi services have got enough popularity in Pakistan as they provide a comfortable and timely way of commuting. However, there are certain issues with them too. If you book a ride through these online services, you might think that the company has taken the proper credentials of the driver, but things are not like that.
Yesterday Islamabad Police has arrested Careem captain (driver) who was involved in looting several passengers. Fida Haider, a resident of Karachi in the capital city, registered an FIR against the driver and complained that he looted her valuable belongings including a laptop, cash and a ladies bag. Police took swift action and arrested the driver while recovering Fida belongings from his vehicle.
According to Police the suspect was already involved in the looting of Rs. 150,000. Islamabad Police also stated that the ride hailing service, Careem, never registered the real credentials of the driver and didn’t follow the rules of procedure, reports local media. The Islamabad deputy commissioner has warned the company to make sure that they always have the necessary documents and a recent photo of any driver who uses their service.
It’s regrettable that due to some black sheep, people are losing their trust in the online taxi services. The services like Careem had benefited the general population with ease, comfort, and sense of security. These online services can eradicate such issues with proper scrutiny of their drivers so that people continue to enjoy comfortable rides.
Also we have witnessed protests by drivers of these companies against the fares. Companies should also resolve these reservations.
