Yesterday, Careem Pakistan just like any other day offered a new promotion, promising 20 percent discount on Pizza Hut outlets if the customer will show the e-receipt in the popular chain restaurant.
But the major twist in the story was revealed when the Pizza Hut in Pakistan denied any such collaboration with one of the most popular ride hailing companies.
Careem Pakistan posted its promotional offer on Facebook, offering 20 percent off on the entire menu until 24th August as you can see in the image below:
Later on, things became awkward as Pizza Hut also took it to the same social media platform to relay their side of the story stating that they are not working with the UAE- based ride-sharing company and reserve the right to take necessary legal action against anyone who is using their name without consent.
Careem Pakistan since its arrival in Pakistan has taken a very different approach to marketing and has thus regularly introduced various enticing offers and promotions to involve its customers. But lately, things are going sideways for the company as the introduction of Rishta Aunty service created an internet frenzy leading to a controversy.
Though the company collaborates with many restaurants in Pakistan, it is hard to understand why it used the name of Pizza Hut if there was no deal or commitment between the two. Maybe instead of focusing on the ride-hailing wars, the company needs to take a deep breath before they launch their new campaign or try a new marketing gimmick.
Update: Careem Pakistan has clarified that their campaign with Pizza Hut is no longer in effect due to lapse in their communication and they regret any inconvenience caused to their users.
