National Freelancing Convention 2017 commenced today and marked the inauguration of the e-rozgaar scheme by Chief Minister Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif in collaboration with Punjab Information Technology Board and under the umbrella of Tech Hub. This program plans to train students so that they would eventually become able to the exploit the huge global freelancing market worldwide.

Cheif Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif at the inauguration said,”The program is a crucial need of time. Providing jobs to the youth is a challenge that we have to convert into an opportunity by taking such initiatives that would empower our future generations.”

Pakistan is moving towards a digital path where it ranks among the top companies with the most employed freelancers. The e-rozgaar program aims to continue this trend by endowing quality training, so the youth can create opportunities for themselves and others.

While addressing the principals, vice chancellors, students and media, Dr. Umar Saif reminisced of having visited a convention abroad where he openly declared Pakistan’s strength is its youth and because of the 60% share youth in the country’s population Pakistan is an economic giant in the making.

He remembers a person who questioned him that if he thinks Pakistan can convert 0.25 million graduates every year into meaningful manpower and will Pakistan be able to provide jobs to everybody? Umar says he returned confused but never lost hope and then he met Muzammil Arif, a student who had just matriculated and started earning money through freelancing.

It was then that Umar thought of this platform and met CM Sharif with the idea who ordered him to start such a platform immediately which led to the formation of Tech Hub. Three years down the lane TechHub has now seen around 700 of its graduates making billions of dollars in the freelance market.

e-rozgaar is a much-needed platform considering the amount of youth searching for jobs every day where 33,105 young graduates applied. The National Freelancing Convention is happening right now at the Arfa Software Technology Park where lots of companies have set up stalls and talks regarding freelancing, blogging and the general NFC scene is being conducted.

The WordPress meetup is scheduled for later today which will gain a lot of attention of almost everybody at the NFC. We will have to wait and see how and when e-rozgaar starts providing us with young people who take over the freelancing sector but the platform has a lot of promise and will need some time to establish itself.
