The eLearn Punjab orientation project of PITB (The Punjab Information Technology Board) has successfully completed 200 sessions across the province to promote the use of free online digital content including textbooks and video and audio clips. This initiative included meeting with teaching staff across various institutions that are managed by Directorate of Staff Development (DSD).
PITB’s program to infuse education with the technology in Pakistan has been facilitated with the easy access of Internet and gadgets like mobile phones. The IT Board can see the success of its project through the attendance of 43 teachers at their recent gathering at the Government College for Elementary Teachers, Kot Lakhpat, where they were promoted from basic pay scale (BPS) grade 16 to grade 17. The participants were also provided with digital content reviewed in the session on their external hard drives so that they could share it widely on their own.
Launched two years ago, the eLearn Punjab is an open official repository of digital textbooks published by the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB). These digital books are augmented with over 10,000 videos, animations, simulations, interactive assessments and audio clips of approximately 1,300 minutes. Many public and private schools are taking advantage of this digital repository.
