After a year of exclusive testing for the United States, Facebook Watch is launched globally. The video platform of the social network seeks to compete against YouTube and against Netflix.
The social media giant said that the VOD service would be “available everywhere” starting on Thursday, opening a global market for publishers and content creators.
Through a statement, Facebook said, “With the worldwide launch of Watch, we support publishers and creators worldwide in two critical areas: helping them make money with their videos on Facebook and better understand how their content is performing”.
Facebook Watch was launched in the United States in August 2017, with the intention of offering users a new space on Facebook to find exclusive shows, and start conversations with friends, other fans and even with the content creators themselves.
Facebook Watch Key Features
- A place to discover new videos: From entertainment to sports through the news.
- A way to stay up to date with the creators and brands you like: In the Watch feed, videos from the pages you follow will appear first. In this way, you can customize your offer.
- A home for your saved videos: When you save a video to watch later from the main feed, you can access it from Watch.
- Videos in which you can participate: The structure of Facebook Watch invites you to participate live, commenting or reacting to what happens. There are also trivia games that require the participation of followers, for example.
Facebook Watch also generates new opportunities to expand ‘the Ad Breaks’ service to monetize content.
According to the company, the service will be officially launched on Thursday in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and NewZealand and in September it will also be available in 21 other countries, including France, Germany, Spain, Argentina, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Thailand. When will it hit Pakistan? Probably next month.
The service will support both English content and different productions in local languages. Over the months the appearance of the first results will begin to expand the territories and languages covered.
