Ferry bidders face difficulties, ministry struggling

Forms of Ferry Service on Ministry's website

The officials have failed to update the website of Ministry of Ports and Shipping, causing problems for the people who were trying to submit the applications to the ministry for running the ferry service on a national and international level.

It is important to recall that the Ministry of Ports and Shipping has earlier announced the issuance of the licences for running the ferry service from Pakistan to Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Iran. These licenses will be issued on the first come first serve basis.

In this regard, it was announced that the application forms can be downloaded from the website of the Ministry of Ports and Shipping. But unfortunately, this website is inaccessible due to the incompetence and negligence of the officials of the ministry.

According to the authorities of Ministry of Ports and Shipping, the Information Technology (IT) section has been instructed to update the website but there has been no progress so far. That is why the website is not accessible at the moment.

The applicants of the ferry service are saying that the Ministry of Ports and Shipping is not serious about running the ferry service. On one hand, they announce the ferry service while on the other hand, they block their website. The senior officials should take notice of this matter, they said.

The main reason behind starting a ferry service to the international destinations is to attract the foreign investors and enhance the business operations of Pakistan. Pakistan will be able to trade with these countries over the sea. Earlier in 2010, Pakistan and Oman announced this project, but it was failed to start because of the financial issues.
