A mid-aged blackmailer was arrested by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on the charges of making porn videos of women and posting the illicit content on social media for blackmailing them.

According to details, Azhar Safdar s/o Muhammad Safdar was arrested last night by a team of FIA cybercrime circle which took charge of investigating cyber crimes in the country just a month ago.

The team acted upon the complaint of a courageous woman namely ‘Shumaila’ who came forward and approached cybercrime circle Lahore. In her complaint, the victim explained that the culprit was blackmailing her. FIA caught Azhar red-handed from a food point at Jail Road, Lahore and registered a case (FIR 62/16) against him.

An official of the investigating agency disclosed that Azhar would record the videos of sexual encounters through several hidden cameras which he had installed at his house. He would then use the porn videos for blackmailing them for his evil plans.

FIA officials confiscated the mobile phone of Azhar that was stuffed with porn videos which had recorded and gathered over the period.

According to a recently approved Cybercrime law of Pakistan, any person who posts the sexually explicit photograph or video of any other person on the internet shall be sentenced to five years in prison or a fine of five million rupees or both. Posting a photo or a video of any person without his/her consent is a punishable crime

The incident is not first of its kind in the country where the consumption of the internet is skyrocketing. As of yet, over 32 million mobile broadband customers spent Rs. 98 billion on the internet just last year.

Back in August, police also arrested a man from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), who was blackmailing the women on Facebook by uploading fake indecent videos.

Not long ago, the famous ARY anchor Iqrar ul Hassan also produced a couple of TV programs on this deplorable act. Through a series of shows, he unveiled that how privately owned guest houses were recording videos of married or unmarried couples and then blackmailing them for minting money.

Although, Cybercrime law is well in action, however, a comprehensive program is highly required from the authorities to educate masses about the dark side of the cyber world.
