The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested the famous Afghan girl (Sharbat Bibi) from Peshawar. She was arrested from her residence in Peshawar on the charges of forgery of Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC), FIA recovered Pakistani and Afghan ID cards from her possession. She has been charged under Section 419, 420 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 5(2) of the Prohibition of Corruption Act.

According to a senior official of NADRA, Sharbat Bibi and her two sons Rauf Khan and Wali Khan were reportedly issued CNICs on the same day. The documents she had used to obtain the CNIC cards were fake. There is also a chance that the two men were not her sons.

As per the documents provided by Sharbat Bibi, she has two sons. But, the officials are saying that Sharbat Bibi has two daughters and a two-year-old son. Moreover, the relatives present at the given address have also failed to recognize the two “sons” of Sharbat Bibi.

According to Dawn news, NADRA has started an inquiry into the case. The officials of NADRA are under fire for issuing CNICs to foreign nationals without any proper documentation.

It is important to mention here that the photograph of Bibi was featured on the cover page of National Geographic Magazine in 1985. Photographer Steve McCurry had captured her picture in a refugee camp situated near Peshawar.
