People in Sindh now won’t have to physically approach the officials of the cybercrime unit as FIA has launched Cybercrime Complaint Portal in the province where people can lodge their complaints.
Sindh FIA Director Dr. Amir Ahmed Sheikh announced the launch of Cybercrime Complaint Portal on Tuesday. He urged the victims of cybercrime and cyber harassment to report their issues to the authorities via the online portal.
There are around 50 million broadband subscribers in the country and the new online portal will make it easy for them to register their complaint from the comfort and safety of their own homes. This can be a good thing as many people, especially women do not feel comfortable walking into the FIA building to report any particular incident or issue.
The website is quite user-friendly and anyone can easily navigate it to submit their complaint. The complaint referral form is also quite easy to understand and is available in English, Urdu, and Sindhi which can enable people from diverse backgrounds to avail this feature.
Dr. Sheikh also revealed that if the victim is not comfortable in sharing their name then their identity would be kept hidden and if any provision in the law abides them to share the name of the complainant, then it won’t be passed on without his/her permission.
Cybercrime law was introduced in 2016 to combat the crimes taking place in the cyberspace where FIA was named the leading agency to tackle all such cases.
