Everyone is familiar with the Apple Design Awards which are held annually by the Apple incorporation in honor of the best iOS-based applications. Now, Google is also going to launch similar kind of event for its best Android-based apps. The event is called Google Play Awards.
Google Play Awards will launch on 19 May 2016. The awards will feature ten categories with five nominees in each category.
Categories in Google Play Awards:
- Standout Startup
- Standout Indie
- Best Families App
- Best Use of Material Design
- Best Use of Google Play Game Services
- Early Adopter
- Go Global
- Most Innovative
- Best App
- Best Game
A team of experts will select the nominees on the basis of criteria emphasizing app quality, innovation, and having a launch or major update in the last 12 months.
In a blog post, Purnima Kochikar, Director of Apps and Games Business Development for Google Play stated that,
“Google Play has seen tremendous growth over the past year, reaching more than 1 billion Android users across 190 countries. As a way to recognize our incredible developer community and highlight some of the best apps and games, we’re kicking off our first-ever Google Play Awards.”
Interestingly, the first group of nominees has already been selected. Google will announce the winners of the awards at its annual software developer-based conference in May.
Because people are mostly excited to know about the best apps and best games, let us tell you the nominees in these two particular categories. The nominees of the best game awards are Clash of Kings, Alphabear, Clash Royale MARVEL Future Fight, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. The nominees of the best app awards are BuzzFeed News, Colorfy, Houzz, TuneIn Radio, Yummly.
These games and apps are definitely worth checking out. Surprisingly, the most used apps in Pakistan like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Skype are not nominated in any of the categories.
