The Federal government plans to establish Science and Technology Institutes in different disciplines. The decision is taken to give socio-economic development a boost in the country.

Reportedly, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) has devised a National Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy. The summary of the strategy has been sent to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for approval.

Upon approval, the federal government will establish different Science and Technology Institutes within ten years across the country including backward areas.

MoST is also considering to establish Precision Systems Training Centre (PSTC) at Gwadar. PSTC imparts quality technical education and practical training for the development of effective and adequate national human capital. The cost of this project would be over 777 million rupees.

The Federal government is also considering to upgrade fruit processing and analytical laboratories along with the establishment of gemstone cutting and polishing center at Skardu.

Such projects, if executed effectively can bring the dying culture of research and technology to the forefront of development. Recently, walking in the same direction, Punjab government is working towards creating a world-class science enclave. Also, PITB signed MOU with the Mayor of Austin, in a bid to transform Lahore and Austin “science cities.”
