As everyone knows, China is controlling major markets in the Asia because the Chinese products are firm and cost-effective. In Pakistan, most of the products are imported from China such as Mobile phones, LCDs, Television sets, Computers, Washing Machines, Toys and many other products.
Now, the government is considering to introduce Chinese medicines in Pakistan. According to the details, a 23-member delegation of China Cultural Heritage Foundation (CCHF), which is currently on a visit to the Provincial Metropolitan, called on the Advisor to Chief Minister on Health, Khawaja Salman Rafique at Civil Secretariat.
The participants discussed possibilities in detail to expand cooperation between Punjab Health Department and the Chinese Institutions in Health Sector. Secretary Primary and Secondary Health briefed the delegation about the steps taken by the government for the development and improvement of primary and secondary healthcare for the provision of quality healthcare to the people of far-flung areas.
During the meeting, both sides discussed to introduce traditional Chinese medicines in Punjab as an alternate system of medicine. The President CCHF Ms. Geng Jing said that traditional Chinese medicines are very efficient and economical, which would be beneficial to the poor.
WHO representative Dr. Khalid Saeed Bukhari stated, “various Chinese treatment systems including acupuncture were already very popular in Pakistan.”
There are already few products under development for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the new initiative of the government could turn out to be a counter measure against a well established mafia which controls the prices of medicine in the country.
It is a common practice that the pharmacists in Pakistan prefer providing the patient an expensive tablet instead of the cheap alternative which also does the same job. For example, a patient that could be treated with a simple paracetamol dose is asked to take the expensive antibiotics. So if traditional Chinese medicines are introduced into the market, this would be very helpful for the people who cannot afford the costly treatments.
It is worth mentioning here that the traditional Chinese medicines are also very advanced but base on a research of more than 2,500 years of Chinese medical practice that includes different types of herbal medicine, acupuncture, massage, exercise and dietary therapy. Chinese medicinal herbs are also very famous for making herbal tea.
There are already many (minor) products by China available in the health sector of Pakistan, such as toothbrushes, dental floss, baby diapers, blood pressure meter, thermometer, etc.
