Punjab Budget 2017-18

After the unveiling of federal budget 2017-18, Dr. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha has revealed the Punjab Budget for the fiscal year of 2017-18. Let’s review the highlights of the fifth and the last budget presented by the current provincial government.

The provincial government has introduced the new Punjab budget with the total outlay of Rs. 1970 billion, where Rs. 1017 billion has been reserved for health, education, security and local governance.

Education

  • Total Education Budget: Rs. 345 billion
  • Danish schools: Rs. 3 billion
  • Punjab Education Foundation: Rs 16 billion
  • Special Education: Rs. 1 billion
  • To fulfill everyday needs of schools: Rs. 14 billion
  • Education of 0.462 million girls: Rs. 6.5 billion
  • 50 new degree colleges
  • Higher Education: Rs. 44.6 billion
  • Khadim-e-Punjab Schools program: Rs. 6.5 billion
  • Primary School teachers will be upgraded from 9 to grade 14, elementary from 14 to 15 and teachers from 15 to 16 grade
  • Annual Package for teachers: Rs. 9 billion
  • 10 thousand schools will benefit from solar energy systems

Health

  • Punjab Food Authority (PFA): Rs. 2.7 billion
  • District Health Authorities: Rs. 73.5 million
  • Health Budget: Rs. 263. 22 billion
  • Inclusion of 200 new ambulances
  • Maternal and neonatal care: Rs. 200 million
  • Primary and secondary Healthcare: Rs. 112 billion
  • Punjab Clean Water Program: Rs. 25 billion
  • Provision of medicines: Rs. 16 billion
  • Free Dialysis Facility: Rs. 70 billion
  • Ultrasound machines: Rs. 0.7 million

Investments & Business

  • No registration fees for new business firms
  • Rs. 25 billion investment bonds to be issued
