2019 has kickstarted a plethora of smartphone releases from all the brands in Pakistan. However, Honor 8C, the recent smartphone from Chinese manufacturer has enough glamour to roast its competition.
The device was launched a couple of days back and comes with a glamorous design as well as an impressive spec sheet. It doesn’t go without saying that Honor 8C has enough attraction towards the consumer end that it will certainly leave an impact on the smartphone market of Pakistan.
Honor 8C comes at a price of Rs. 26,499. Fortunately, we got our hands on the device and have had the chance to present you our thoughts about it so here are our first impression of the smartphone.
Honor 8C Unboxing
The unit we received was black in color. Since it does not have a flashy or glossy look, it appears as graceful as we expected. The best thing about Honor phones that the box includes the complete package. Here’s what comes out-of-the-box.
- A wall charger
- A USB cable
- SIM Tray Ejection tool
- A pair of earphones
- Warranty card
- Transparent Jell-O case
Design & Display
Though the phone comes with a plastic unibody design but the elegant finish and the sleek body of the device makes you believe otherwise. It does not look cheap at all.
The phone sits firmly in hands thanks to its slim body and great ergonomics. The curved edges on the back help a lot in the handling of the phone and despite its large size, it can be fairly usable with one hand.
Like almost all the Honor devices, the volume rocker and the power are well placed on the right side and on the left, you find a SIM tray. The phone also has an option for storage expansion.
Another huge plus point about the phone is that it provides a dedicated micro SD card slot so you don’t have to compromise your second SIM usage to expand the memory. It can support up to 256GB external storage via memory card.
On the bottom end of the device, you can find a single speaker grill along with a micro USB charging port and the main microphone while on the top end, you can find the 3.5mm audio jack along with a noise cancellation mic.
On the front, Honor 8C boasts a 6.26 inches IPS LCD that comes with a resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels and a very modern 19:9 aspect ratio. This translates into 269 ppi density with an overall 81.9% screen to body ratio. The screen also houses a notch and though it’s not the waterdrop-like tiny notch, it’s not as big as you have seen in Apple devices.
The notch is home to a front facing camera and the best part is that it also contains a front flash. Besides this, the earpiece is also placed in the notch which inevitably makes it a little bigger than the waterdrop notch.
Performance and Battery
Honor 8C packs a massive 4000mAh battery which suggests that the device can go on for two days in light to moderate use and even with graphics intensive and resource intensive usage, a full day of using the phone should not be a problem. In terms of battery capacity Honor 8C exceeds every other Honor phone currently available in the market, even its cousin Honor 10 Lite which is way pricier.
The company has stuffed up the phone with pretty impressive specs. It comes as the first phone in Pakistan carrying the Snapdragon 632 chipset. A 3GB RAM backs the mid-range processor while a 32GB of internal storage is available to store your data.
on the software front, it comes with EMUI 8.2 built on top of Android 8.1 to give you greater accessibility of your device. In our initial usage, the phone did not show any sign of lag and the battery really amazed us. It seems the phone is optimized very well to consume less battery and provide great efficiency.
Though Honor never claimed to be a photography expert like other companies even then it has improved quite a lot in the photography category. Enough to pose serious competition. Just like the trend prevails, honor 8C comes with a dual camera setup on its back with the main lens of 13 MP with f/1.8 and Phase Detection AutoFocus and a secondary lens of 2MP with f/2.4 aperture that collects the depth of field.
The dual camera is laced with AI and has the capability to adapt according to the settings in the scene so once you point the camera towards, let’s say a person, it will automatically adjust its settings according to portrait mode, Similarly it can auto-tune the settings to recognize sunsets, greenery, and overcast in the frame.
The front snapper comes with 8MP lens alongside a flash that greatly helps to take selfies in the areas with low light. The selfie light is not very harsh so that your eyes don’t get dozy while taking a picture.
Honor 8C is definitely is the kind of device that you can carry around and show off to your friends. The most important aspect when buying this phone is the price it is available at. At an unbelievable price of just Rs. 26,499, you are getting a rockstar smartphone that is never going to disappoint you in moderate to light usage.
We are still skeptical about the intensive usage on the phone but we think that the Snapdragon 632 would be sufficient for the needs of the average user.
It comes packed with all the nitty-gritty required by a modern smartphone user, like a beautiful build, a dual camera, a great chipset, ample RAM, a front-facing selfie. So, for this price, it definitely rocks.
