Huawei released two phones with only a months difference in between, but a much bigger point of contrast among the two is the price range. The Honor 6X is a midrange phone whereas the Mate 9 is premium priced phone with a full metal body just like the 6X.
The Huawei Mate 9 is high priced for several reasons but what we intend to find in this comparison is whether the Honor 6X is quietly offering a lot similar to the Mate 9 or is it just a budget phone to get you through the day to day routine.
Display and Hardware
Starting from the display the Mate 9 has 3 inches bigger display with less frame on the sides which makes it feel more premium. The pixels and resolution are not much of a difference as both offer an HD 1080 X 1920 pixels. The Mate 9 packs a superior processor with a 4 GB RAM as compared to 3 GB offered by the Honor 6X, which is also fine considering its a budget phone.
Unlike the Honor 6X, Mate 9 has a USB Type-C connector which enhances the fast data transfer feature. It’s a surprise that the 6X has not packed a USB Type-C since its becoming a standard going forward.
As far as the cameras are concerned, one can get attracted to buying either of them, considering the fact that both house a dual camera, however, the Mate 9 is far superior. The expensive model of the two has an optical image stabilization feature which improves its low-light performance and faster focus allows to click snaps at a rapid rate and offers you a 4K video recording option too.
Where the Honor 6X has a dual camera too, it is important to not that it’s only a 2 MP camera attached to the primary 12 MP. On the other hand, the Mate 9 has a much better 20 MP camera that combines with the primary camera to take less pixelated photos.
An interesting feature of the 2 MP 6X camera is how it lets you blur the background while taking photos giving them a semi-professional look. The selfie camera is the same with 8 megapixels on both the models.
One the most significant differences is of course the operating system. This is where the 6X lacks behind as it was released just recently but does not run on the latest Android OS. The interface is an older one too which means no utility options such as the AppDrawer, recent apps, AppTwin and the doze mode designed to prolong the battery timings.
Storage options and Battery
The internal storage options on both phones are decent with the 6X and Mate 9 providing 32 GB and 64 GB respectively. Mate 9 features a huge 4000 mAh battery as compared to the 6X’s 3340 mAh but what’s impressive about the 6X is that it does have a longer battery life. The features and processor power on the Mate 9 drains the battery faster than the budget 6X.
While the Huawei Mate 9 is a better choice if you plan to dish out a huge amount of money, the Honor 6X does lag far behind with a decent camera and superior battery life. If you’re upgrading from a one or two-year-old phone and do not want to hurt your wallet much, the Honor 6X is an excellent choice. It has an older OS which is rumored to be upgraded to the latest OS Nougat soon which will make it even more desirable.
