Huawei has launched its most awaited smartphones of the year, Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 and the gaming smartphone Mate 20X.

Even though the leaks were continuous and consistent about the Mate 20 series and we had a pretty good idea about the specs and design of the phones, Huawei still managed to surprise us by launching an array of products at the event.

Just imagine the differences between their predecessors, the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro and stretch them further apart; that’s how much different the latest flagships are, from each other. Let’s take a dive into the specs of both the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro to get a better idea about what the company is offering in its latest offerings.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro comes as the elder brother between the two. Ornamented with some of the best specs the company has ever provided on any of their smartphones, Mate 20 pro aims to up the game and stand out among its rivals.

An Immersive Display

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro has a 6.39-inch curved OLED display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The panel has a 2K+ (3120 x 1440) resolution and a massive 86.90% screen-to-body ratio. The display is a major upgrade over its predecessor, Mate 10 Pro which came with a notchless display having a much lower resolution of 1080×2160 pixels.

The display comes with a large iPhone-like notch as compared to its younger sibling, Mate 20, which has a waterdrop notch. That’s because the notch carries an array of sensors along with a camera and earpiece, including the 3D face unlock sensor.

The phone comes with a 3X optical zoom and a 5X hybrid zoom. With a number of interesting features such as Super HDR, AR features, macro photography and low-light photography, Mate 20 pro aims to fulfill the needs of all you smartphone photography enthusiasts out there.

Top-of-the-line Specs

Kirin 980

Kirin 980 sits in the heart of the Mate 20 Pro. Though Apple has also released a 7nm chipset in its latest lineup of iPhones, Kirin 980 is the world’s first to be manufactured on a 7nm process as it was unveiled way before its Apple counterpart.

Besides the processors, the device comes with a Dual NPU that will allow it to allocate resources more efficiently, having a huge impact on camera performance. One of the NPUs is used for things like image recognition while the other processes things like natural language processing and video rendering.

The phone comes with only one memory option; a 128GB massive storage couple with an 8GB of ample RAM which makes it a dream phone for power users.

Think about all the design beauty and exciting features of Huawei Mate 20 Pro. Now imagine a less exciting device with the same design and features like triple camera setup. That’s what the Mate 20 is.

Don’t get us wrong. Mate 20 is all that we hoped for and more and is similar in many ways with the Mate 20 pro, it still has some lesser features and toned down specs in some areas than its elder brother. Here are all the specs that differ in Mate 20 from the Mate 20 pro.

Display

Mate 20 sports a 6.53-inch HDR LCD display in contrast with the curved OLED of Mate 20 Pro. It sports a resolution of 2240 x 1080 pixels which is lesser than the 1440 x 2560 pixels resolution of its predecessor, Mate 10.

However, the phone hosts a water drop notch and has a higher 88.08% screen-to-body ratio than the Mate 20 pro.

Battery and Charging Capabilities

Huawei Mate 20 has a 4,000mAh battery with 22.5W fast charging which is sadly far lower than the 40W ultra-fast charging for the Mate 20 Pro. It also does not support wireless charging as the pro version does.

The camera is where the Mate 20 differs a lot from its elder sibling. The Mate 20 has triple rear Leica cameras. One is a 16MP ultra-wide angle 17mm lens, another is a 12MP wide-angle 27mm lens and the third is an 8MP 2x telephoto 52mm lens.

Traditional Fingerprint Scanning

Huawei Mate 20 comes with a traditional fingerprint scanner, i.e, a circularly shaped scanner on the back of the phone. Though it might not sound like a deal breaker, it still is a huge difference from the in-display scanner of Mate 20 pro.
