Huawei P9 was hands down one of the most exciting smartphones of 2016, and now the company has unveiled the successor to its flagship device, Huawei P10, and P10 Plus.
With the launch of P9, Huawei came shoulder to shoulder with Apple and Samsung in terms of competition and the partnership with Leica definitely gave them an edge. Here at MWC, we have witnessed jam a packed hall at the launch of P10 and P10 Plus, where many people stood outside due to lack of space.
We have already covered the different features of Huawei P10 & P10 Plus, but let’s see how it is an improvement from its previous version.
Huawei P9 gave a new meaning to mobile photography with introducing Dual Leica lens where monochrome lens gave more depth and wider dynamic range and combined with the color lens provided brighter and sharper images even under bad lighting.
P10 and P10 Plus has taken its camera game a step further with the introduction of a 12-megapixel color camera for regular shots and a 20-megapixel sensor dedicated to monochrome imaging. It also offers an 8-megapixel front camera for impeccable selfies.
Huawei has equipped its smartphones with new camera effects making it stand out from the crowd. It offers a new Portrait mode in both front and rear cameras. The phones can focus on the subject by identifying and isolating people in the frame. It can blur out both the foreground and background to focus attention on the subject in the picture.
It also offers an adaptive selfie feature which will detect whether you’re taking a solo or group selfie (groufie). It will thus, automatically expand to a wider angle to include more people in a group shot.
Like the P9, the new smartphones comes in two sizes; Huawei P10 has a 5.1-inch, 1080p display, while P10 Plus offers a 5.5-inch, WQHD panel. There is not much difference between the new and old handsets when it comes to the screen size.
Huawei P10 comes in eight exciting colors with new hyper cut finish at the back, giving the smartphone glass like finish, without the worry of landing fingerprint smudges all over the phone.
Battery & Performance
Huawei’s new smartphones offer generous battery life where P10 packs a 3,200mAh and P10 Plus has a 3,750mAh battery. It is definitely an improvement from its predecessor as more battery means more power to the user.
Just like P9, Huawei P10, and P10 plus both offers a Supercharge feature, which means one doesn’t have to wait for too long for a quick battery top up. The new smartphones also have a new Kirin 960 processor, powering its EMUI 5.1 software.
Huawei has changed the location of its fingerprint reader and it can now be found in the new home button (reminds anyone of Apple’s iPhone?)
the new home button serves multiple features, where one can pressing it for long will take you to Home, tapping it for short time will take you back and just swiping the home key will take you to your recent activity.
Our Final Verdict: Huawei P10 offers smarter camera, long battery life and better performance than its predecessor.
