As we described in our first impressions of the device, Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 is a gorgeous phone which comes with a two-toned display and glossy finish at the back.
The combination of a lighter and darker shade of the same color gives a refreshing look when every other device is rushing for a gradient color design.
At the back, we can find the triple camera setup and the traditional fingerprint sensor. The volume rocker and power buttons are present at the right side and are accessible even if you prefer using your left hand instead of right.
The hybrid SIM slot is present at the top along with the resting place of pop-up camera and at the bottom, we get a USB Type C charging port, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a speaker.
Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 features a large 6.59 inches of IPS LCD display which comes with 1080 x 2340 pixels and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The good news is that you don’t have to put up with a notch or a cutout anymore and the result is beautiful all-screen display with minimum bezels at the sides.
The display boasts vibrant colors and the presence of good viewing angles makes watching movies quite an immersive experience. The brightness of the screen may not be enough for outdoor use, as even with the maximum brightness setting, you may still face issues while looking at the phone’s content.
The smartphone runs on EMUI 9.0.1 based on Android Pie which offers a bloatware-free user-friendly interface. Since the US has eased restrictions on Huawei, the company has finally reunited with Google so we can now be sure about receiving future OS updates for Huawei Y9 Prime 2019.
The phone uses Google’s Messenger as its default texting app that can help you to send and receive messages even through your computer. It has a dedicated Party Mode app which can connect with other Huawei devices to create a sound system consisting only of mobile phones.

Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 is powered by Kirin 710F chipset accompanied by Mali-G51 MP4 GPU, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Here are the benchmark scores of the smartphone.
The device worked flawlessly during moderate usage which mainly consisted of everyday tasks like calling, texting, using social media, surfing the web, etc. Even in heavy usage, the device showed no sign of lag or stuttering while we played some heavy duty games like PUBG, Asphalt 9, etc. or had fun using Tik Tok.
In both tests, the smartphone ran smoothly and showed no signs of heating after an hour dedicated gaming session. The smartphone’s 4000mAh battery, on the other hand, drains quickly as in an hour of light use it dropped by 12% and in heavy usage, it consumed 16% of charge. It also takes 2 hours and 4 minutes for the phone to charge from 0 to 100%.
Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 comes with AI-powered triple cameras at the back featuring a 16 MP main lens f/1.8, an 8 MP ultrawide lens and a 2 MP depth sensor. The camera app comes with a very clean interface with easy swipe-able options and accessible toggles at the top.
Looking at photos taken by the smartphone, you can see that Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 can take some excellent shots during daylight. As you can see below; the colors of the subject are quite natural and there is no visible loss of detail.
The AI mode, on the other hand, softens the image, giving the subject a lighter color while the HDR Mode slightly darkens the colors of the subject in question. You can also use the HDR mode to better control the light in dark places and capture neon signs.
The wide-aperture of the camera faces the problem with outlining the edges when you are taking a shot. You can see how the camera has blurred the subject in question while using wide-aperture.
The ultra-wide angle lens captures more context of the image but at the same time, you will see a bit sharpened image with slight loss of details on the sides.
The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019, thanks to the dedicated Night Mode, can also see in the dark. As you can see below, even in a pitch-black situation, it can capture the details of the subject but at the same time, there will be some noise in the image.
In the following two images, you can see that the night mode has clearly captured the plants and the fern is quite visible as compared to the image taken in auto mode.
The smartphone also features a 16MP motorized pop-up camera which can take some amazing selfies during the day.
The beauty mode smoothens the skin while keeping the colors as natural as possible. The bouquet mode often faces issue in identifying the outlines of the subject and sometimes blur a part of the person as well.
Huawei Y9 prime 2019 is a beautiful all screen device which not just offers good looks but also great performance. It is an ideal phone for people who prefer watching videos, movies, etc. or playing games on smartphones. The triple cameras can take decent images during the day but and can take pictures even in the dark.
The battery, however, doesn’t last too long and it would be ideal for the user to keep the portable charger at hand especially if they are a power user.
