Just like we were all obsessed with the notched display in 2018, the smartphone users are going crazy over this year’s pop-up camera trend whose foundation was set by OPPO and Vivo last year. To offer a Full View display to consumers, companies are getting rid of the troublesome cut-out and are opting for the motorized front camera and Huawei is the recent company to join this race with its mid-range Huawei Y9 Prime 2019.
Even though the Chinese smartphone giant is a little late in offering this feature, it has made sure to provide it in the most sophisticated way possible. Unlike OPPO F11 Pro or Vivo V15 phones, The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 is a sleek device which does not come with any protrusion at the back.
The smartphone is available for pre-order for Rs. 34,000 and luckily we have the device with us before its official launch in Pakistan. You still have to wait a bit for our detailed review but nothing is stopping us from giving our first impressions after using the phone for a few hours. So without wasting more time, let’s see what Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 is made of.
Design & Display
When it comes to design, all we can say is that Huawei has pretty much found out the secret of enticing the smartphone users with just one look. The new Huawei Y9 2019 is one of the beautiful smartphones in the market and its glossy finish gives off the vibes of a premium smartphone.
The back of the device curves around the edges and we were surprised to see how well this enhancement helped us to keep a firm grip on the device. It also comes with a two-toned display with a darker and lighter shade of the same color. It is quite refreshing especially when you do not want a gradient finish.
You can also see the triple camera setup and a traditional fingerprint sensor packed elegantly at the back. The volume rocker and power buttons are stacked at the right side which are easy to reach regardless whether you use the right or left hand.
At the top, we get a hybrid SIM slot and a pop-up camera while the bottom features a USB Type C charging port, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a speaker.
We were happy to see the Type C charging port in the smartphone as it is about time that all companies adopt this as a standard practice for mid-range phones.
Now coming to the display of Huawei Y9 Prime 2019, the user gets a large 6.59 inches of IPS LCD display which comes with 1080 x 2340 pixels and 19.5:9 aspect ratio.
During our brief contact with the phone, we noticed that it produces crisp and vibrant colors on the display which makes the device’s content look much more appealing.
Performance & Battery
Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 is powered by the company’s Kirin 710F chipset coupled with Mali-G51 MP4 GPU, 4GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage which can be expanded upto 1TB via MicroSD card. The smartphone also packs a 4000mAh battery to provide longer life to the device.
For a smartphone that is launching in Pakistan for just Rs. 34,000, these are pretty outstanding specs but would they able to deliver the expected performance, we will have to wait and see in our extensive testing.
In the camera department, Huawei Y9 2019 offers a triple camera setup at the back featuring 16 MP main lens f/1.8, an 8 MP ultrawide lens and a 2 MP depth sensor.
For selfies, there is a 16MP motorized pop-up camera which slides from the top when the user wants to access the front camera whether it is for photos, face recognition or a video call.

Huawei always managed to offer quality features in the least possible price and Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 is no exception. As of right now, it is the most affordable pop-up camera phone in the market and offers specs that can match mid-range phones from other brands.
