Chairperson Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), Dr. Umar Saif today interacted with people on Facebook using the live video service. He announced about a new exciting university in Pakistan, called ITU (Information Technology University).
He stated that ITU is the first research-based university in Pakistan, and it offers a secure future to the students. The university is very selective in hiring the teaching staff. If 100 people apply for the faculty position in ITU, the management takes the interviews of just 25 of them and ends up hiring one of them. It is because the ITU wants the best teachers in the world. The university has a lot of Ph.D. faculty members.
On the other hand, the university does not compromise on the students also. It gives the admission to the most deserving students only. If 100 students apply, the university provides the admission to two to five of them. The focus of the ITU is on quality.
The Information Technology University is a public as well as private sector university. It is funded by the government, but its policies and the standards compete with the high-quality private universities in Pakistan. It is recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) as well as Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).
Dr. Umar Saif revealed in the live video that the government started the ITU with an endorsement of 50 crore rupees.
ITU to start new programs, very soon: Dr. Umar Saif
Other than this, he stated that the government has granted a significant amount of money to the ITU in the budget 2016-17. The university will start a campus at Burki Road, near Lahore School of Economics. A hostel will be created in the two blocks of the building. The new campus will start classes from December, this year.
The university will start various new programs for the students. Below are a few of them:
- Nanotechnology programs.
- Mechanical Engineering.
- Material Sciences.
- Industrial Engineering.
- Automotive Engineering.
Dr. Umar Saif explained that the ITU offers merit-based as well as need-based scholarships. He said that the university offered the concession in fee to the deserving students, who cannot pay the fee.
“If you get an admission at the ITU, you will never have to worry about the cost. If you cannot pay your education fee, the university will pay your fee. But, you will have to maintain an excellent academic record to get the discount,” stated Dr. Umar Saif.
Moreover, he stated that the university has five to six state-of-the-art research laboratories, in which, the students are performing very well. The university has noticed that the students who come for Ph.D. often start a part-time job to manage their expenses. So, the ITU has decided to pay Rs. 75,000 to the graduate students on a per month basis.
The last date to apply for the admission at ITU is 30th June. In the live video, Dr. Umar Saif also answered the questions asked by the people on Facebook.
