Chief Traffic Officer Lahore, Captain retired Liaquat Ali Malik has said that from today onwards driving license files will be given to the applicants free of cost.
Earlier, these files were being sold in Rs. 200 to Rs. 300 by the touts at the driving centers. In the first phase, more than 20,000 files have been given to the citizens, citizens will get all the files available from the driving centers.
CTO Lahore said that every kind of corruption has been eradicated in licensing, we have to make the lives of citizens easier, there should be no obstacles in the acquisition of driving licenses, we are working on the attitude of licensing staff.
He also announced that cash prizes will be rewarded to the best performing staff considering the quality of their work. He said that his office doors are open to the public and anyone can come to him if he feels corruption or has any other kind of complaint.
Previous month, the officer also warned that strict disciplinary action would be taken against the traffic wardens found missing from duty points. He said that a comprehensive traffic control and management plan should be implemented across the city after consulting all the stakeholders including the management of colleges, universities, and members of trade unions.
Meanwhile, the CTO visited the driving test center at Arfa Kareem Tower and discussed various issues with the citizens about the attitude of Licensing Staff.
CTO had ordered a departmental inquiry against Inspector Kamil Hussain and Traffic Wardens Ashfaq and Naveed over complaints of corruption and rude attitude with the applicants.
Driving a vehicle without having a valid driving license is a serious punishable offense, as responsible citizens it is our duty to get a driving license before hopping behind the wheel.
Still its a very cumbersome process and demands almost half of a day but we hope that City Traffic Police will come up with a proper online system with just one time visit of the licensing center for a practical driving test.
