Lahore High Court (LHC) has given a 30-day deadline to the federal government for the appointment of a new chairman.
The court on Thursday disposed of the petition filed by Shiraz Zaka who argued that according to the existing regulations, Chairman PTA can hold the office for only four years.
The Attorney General produced the copy of the advertisement that was issued on 6th December for the purpose of filling the vacancy of Chairman PTA in the court which rendered the petition useless.
Dr. Syed Ismail Shah has been serving as the Chairman PTA since 2013. He has an undergraduate degree in Engineering from Pakistan and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, PA, USA. He holds both ample experiences in both public and private sector.
Previously, the federal government approved the reappointment of Dr. Ismail Shah as Chairman PTA but later retracted its decision of granting an extension. In his reign, Pakistan witnessed the 3G/4G spectrum auction, the biometric verification of cellular SIM cards, Telecom Policy, Mobile Devices Identification, Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) etc.
PTA is also getting ready to test the upcoming 5G technology in Pakistan by creating a regulatory framework for testing the new technology.
