The mobile phone import during the Fiscal Year 2016-17 has decreased by 5.87 percent as compared to the same period in the previous year.
For the period under review, the mobile phone imports were recorded at $709.69 million against the $753.224 million worth of mobile imports in June-July 2015-16.
According to the latest data provided by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the mobile phone import increased by 12.02 percent on month-on-month basis and 9.97 percent on year-on-year basis.
The mobile phone import were recorded at $72,549 in June 2017, whereas in May 2017 it was recorded to be $64.762 million and $65.972 milion in June 2016.
The overall import of telecom equipment decreased by 0.38 percent in June-July 2016-17 and was recorded at $1.356 billion as compared to the $1.361 billion in the same period last year.
The telecom imports also witnessed a downward trend as it fell to 12.6 percent on month-on-month basis to $102.796 million in June 2017 from $117.618 million in May 2017. It also shows a decreased of 1.58 percent on year-on-year basis from $104.441 recorded in June 2016.
The import of mobile phones fell by 7.29 percent in the first 11 months of the fiscal year 2016-17 as compared to the same period in 2015-16. As we have previoulsy reported, the stringent policies of the government is one of the main causes for the major dip in the mobile phone imports in Pakistan.
