Pakistan is witnessing a growing population of mobile phones across the country. According to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), there are 140.5 million mobile phone users in the country by May 2017.

In July last year, the mobile phone users accounted for 133.2 million users in Pakistan which show us that people are rapidly adopting this telecommunication technology.

During the above mentioned period, all the mobile phone operators have added around 7.3 million subscribers in their expanding user base.

When it comes to the number of users, Jazz tops the charts with the 53 million customers, making it the biggest telecom operator in Pakistan.

Telenor stands at the second position with 41 million users followed by Zong which has 28.2 million customers and then comes Ufone with 18.5 million customers till May 2017.

Though the figures show a positive trend, we cannot forget that many people in Pakistan have more than one cellular SIMs in use.

Now almost all mobile phones offer dual SIM feature in the country and with the liberty of owning 5 telecom SIMs on one biometric identity, there is duplication in the data of mobile phone users in Pakistan.

It is also imperative to mention that the Teledensity has also shown a positive trend. It used to be 70.71 percent in July 2016 and by May 2017, it stands at 72.51 percent..
