Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government plans to put all the mosques in the province on solar power. The provincial government through this initiative will move away from traditional sources of power towards renewable energy that is safe for the environment.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday, Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has directed on Tuesday for early the award of contracts for putting mosques on solar power throughout KPK.
Secretary energy Engr Mohammad Naeem briefed the CM about the process of providing mosques with solar power in a meeting. He informed that the process of awarding contracts will be completed by the end of January while the project will be completed by May 2018.
Pakistan after so many years still faces the menace of load shedding which gets worse in the summer. We have also been plagued with environmental concerns like Smog which makes it an urgent matter to move push back the use of fossil fuel and explore the sources of renewable energy in the country.
CM Khattak has ordered strict monitoring of the project and its implementation so people would have an alternative arrangement for electricity in the mosques in case the load shedding continued in the summer of this year.
