2017 is about to end which brings us to our favorite thing in the world, 2017 Roundup.  After the Mobilink-Warid merger that created a single Jazz empire, there are only four telcos left standing in Pakistan. Despite the heavy taxes imposed on the telecom services, it is still one of the thriving industries in the country.

If we look back at the telecom companies this year, they focused more on the consumer than they have ever done before. For instance, Jazz held various Facebook Live sessions, Telenor changed its approach and slogan to include the Pakistanis from across the country etc. The main question is which is the most searched telecom company in Pakistan on the Internet?

To answer this question, we have turned to Google Trends to see the search interest of Pakistanis.

Google Trends data is an unbiased sample of Google search data which is anonymous, categorized and aggregated

Google indexes its data to 100, a number which indicates maximum search interest for the selected time and location.

In the above graph, we can see that Zong has retained its position as the most searched telco in 2017 as its index points fall behind Jazz’s only one time.

Looks like 2017 was really a bad year for Ufone as it is enjoying the lowest spot, maybe because it is still the only network which doesn’t offer 4G services.

Now let’s break down the search interest to see which subregions of Pakistan are searching which telco (Note: the higher the index number beside any city and subregion, the higher the interest).

It has been an interesting year for Jazz as it has managed to retain its large subscriber base thanks to the completion of its merger with Warid. As of November 2017, the telecom company has 53, 494, 998 users higher than 52,470,638 recorded at the end of the fiscal year 2016-17.

Here are the subregions which have searched the telecom company the most:

Subregions Google Index
Federally Administered Tribal Areas 100
Punjab 78
Islamabad Capital Territory 56
Sindh 43
Azad Jammu and Kashmir 37
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 30
Balochistan 24
Gilgit-Baltistan 6

It is fascinating to see that Jazz was most searched in FATA, so maybe the company can do something to provide better service to the residents of this region.

Telenor is still the second largest telco in Pakistan with 41, 174, 599 subscribers which have grown 40,804, 820 users recorded at the end of the fiscal year 2016-17.

The company also opened gates of its new Telenor Pakistan Campus ‘345’ and announced its new business strategy focusing on Pakistanis across the country termed “Jo Har Pakistani Chahay.”

Zong is the most searched telecom company in Pakistan and it has successfully retained the most number of 4G subscribers in the country but when it comes to total users, the company falls in the third place with 29, 852, 520 users higher than the 28,084,677 at the end of the fiscal year 2016-17.

Ufone has seen many ups and downs considering the search interest of the telecom company in Pakistan. It still stands at the fourth place with its 18,816,214 subscriber base which grew at a small pace from 18,397,981 users which were recorded at the end of the fiscal year 2016-17.

The following subregions actively searched for Ufone on Google:

Punjab 96
Sindh 96
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 95

It is interesting to see that the most internet searches came from Balochistan, so the company might try to entice the users there with better offers or deals.
