Qualcomm just announced it will be releasing a new chip accompanied by other hardware and software on board to increase the productivity of low-end phones. This means feature phones like the resurrected Nokia 3310 will come with 4G and WiFi connectivity.
The Qualcomm 205 mobile platform will enable 4G downloads of up to 150Mbps and 2G, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1 and FM radio support. The CPU is a dual-core 1.1Ghz while the GPU will be by Aderno, the version is yet to specified.
Qualcomm claims the new chip will let phones last multiple days and will be able to stream HD videos. Qualcomm’s vice president product management Kedar Kondap said that feature phones have a massive share in many emerging countries and the new chip will allow us to provide 4G connectivity and services at prices like never seen before.
The company plans to ship phones with the new 205 mobile platform in the India, Latin America and the Southeast Asia.
