In a combined experiment, the experts at Nokia Bell Labs, Deutsche Telekom T-Labs and the Technical University of Munich have practically shown the transferring of data at the speed of 1 terabit per second (Tbps) via the optic fiber cable. The experts claim that they have successfully crossed Google’s Fibre data transfer speed by 1000 times.
Although this kind of experiments has been performed in the past, they proved to be successful only for the smaller distances while the quality of the transferring of data has remained very poor on increasing the remoteness.
It is the first time that the data has been transferred on a very long distance and at a very fast speed. Other than this, the global industry of telecommunication wants to get the advantage of the other similar technologies for increasing the data transfer speed while it will take a lot of time and investments to replace the current optical fiber equipment with any other technology. Therefore, we should expect that the optical fiber networks that transfer the data at the speed of one terabit per second should become available in the next ten to twenty years.
It is important to mention that the one terabit per second is the maximum data transfer speed of the fibre optic cable, which is acquired by the experts after performing a lot of successful experiments.
