Some of you might associate Oppo with only the affordable priced handsets that are adequately ranged between budget to mid-range price category. Oppo may be a name new to the flagship domain but the recently launched handset, Oppo Find X, is here to change everything for good.
The phone was launched earlier in June and while the device comes with all the worthy features you would expect from a 2018 flagship, there are also some features in the Chinese manufacturer’s phone that may catch you by surprise and are definitely worth a second look.
Here is all that you need to know about the Oppo’s latest premium flagship.
All About Slide
At first glance, the Oppo Find X looks very up to date with the latest industry design trends. An in-depth look reveals the phone to be way ahead of its competitors in expressing a bold and innovative design.
The phone is basically two slices of glass with a sandwich of metal between them. The phone comes in two colors which the company calls “Bordeaux Red” and “Glacier Blue”. While the red one looks more like a purple, both the colors have an amazing shimmer to them.
Apparently, you won’t see rear or front cameras on the phone. Instead, Oppo has opted for a slider mechanism where a module carrying both the front and the rear camera pop-up from the phone’s body. Oppo claims that this motorized slider camera module opens and closes within half a second. The phone also doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor and relies only on facial recognition.
The company assures the durability of the phone’s slider and claims that the Find X’s dual-rail periscope was subjected to over 300000 rigorous tests in its R&D lab. This can roughly be translated to 150 times of usage per day for 5 years.
The premium design of Oppo Find X makes a bold statement and has set the bar very high for other manufacturers. It would take a serious innovation to meet the standard that the company has set here.
All Screen Madness
The most eye catchy feature in the Find X is its display. The company took the bezel-less craze and championed it by eliminating the hurdles that occur in achieving an all screen design.
The whole point of integrating a camera slider module was to achieve a truly bezel-less screen which Oppo did successfully and claims to boast an industry leading 93.8% screen to body ratio in Find X.
The phone houses a 6.42-inch display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and Full HD+ resolution. The use of AMOLED screen in Oppo Find X assures better color and contrast quality with blacks being darker. Another advantage of the AMOLED displays is their power efficiency with better viewing angles.
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with 8GB of RAM powers up the device. The smartphone drives its juice from a 3,730mAh battery with support for VOOC charging technology. The company has also ditched the 3.5mm audio jack in favor of a USB Type C port. The phone comes with Color OS 5.1 (based on Android 8.1) along with 128GB and 256GB of memory options to choose from.
In addition to this, besides the regular version of Oppo Find X, the company has also partnered with the Italian Automobile giant, Lamborghini, to produce the Find X Lamborghini Edition with Super VOOC charging that would allow the phone to charge from zero to full in 35 minutes.
The phone encapsulates a pop-up camera module, the like of which we have also seen in the Vivo Nex but Oppo’s setup is quite different and consists of the upper portion of the phone popping up to reveal both the front and rear camera.
All that drama and hype would be for nothing if Oppo Find X sported a sub-par camera setup, but that’s not the case. Both the front and rear cameras on the phones are AI enabled to capture better photos.
The front camera consists of a 25 MP lens which, according to the company, has been combined with a 3D array that recognizes light more precisely and illuminates the subject more naturally and accurately.
Meanwhile, the back hosts dual cameras with a 16MP f/2.0 and 20MP f/2.2 sensors with AI integration and is capable of recognizing 800 scenes providing you with a seamless photography experience.
The front camera comes with Apple-inspired 3D animoji support called the O-Moji and is also ornamented with a 3D Facial Recognition, the first in any Android phone. “Using 15,000 facial dot recognition and intelligent analysis, 3D Face Recognition is 20 times safer than fingerprint recognition for unlocking the phone,” claims the company.
