After the success of OPPO Find X and its launch in Pakistan, Oppo has unveiled the world’s first phone to feature Corning Gorilla 6 and one of the smallest(water drop) notch, the OPPO R17.
The phone was spotted today on Oppo’s official page on the Chinese social platform, Weibo.
The official listing has confirmed the leaks surfaced earlier, that the newest model has a 6.4-inch display that sports a Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection on top and has an in-display fingerprint sensor.
It also features the same “teardrop” notch design that results in 91.5% screen-to-body ratio which has also been teased in Oppo F9 commercials. The screen of the Oppo R17 has practically no bezels on the side, while the top has a razor-thin bezel for the speaker.
The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 SoC that is coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It is backed by a 3,500mAh battery with Oppo’s VOOC fast charging technology which delivers two hours of battery life with five minutes of charge.
The handset has an artificial intelligence(AI) supported dual rear camera setup that comprises a 16MP primary sensor and a 5MP secondary sensor, paired with an LED flash. For selfies, there is a 25MP Sony IMX576 sensor available at the front that has a f/2.0 aperture.
The phone supports Color OS 5.2 as its main UI platform which is based on Android Oreo 8.1. It is the latest version and should bring some more voice-activated features, info panels and optimized battery performance.
OPPO R17 comes in Streamer Blue as well as Neon Purple color options. Oppo has started taking pre-orders for the device, while official sales will begin on August 18. The Oppo R17 price is also likely to be revealed at the time of formal sale.
The Chinese company could also bring a superior version of the new mode, as The Weibo listing confirmed that another version of the smartphone, namely R17 pro is also on its way.
