OPPO outstrips the big brands with shipping 78.4 million mobile units in China last year. According to the latest IDC Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, the company topped the yearly smartphone sales chart in the country for the first time, beating Huawei and its sister company Vivo.
In the year 2016, Huawei shipped 76.6 million whereas Vivo shipped 69.2 million handsets, thus seizing the first and second position in the Chinese market.
In the fourth and fifth position stands Apple and Xiaomi where the two witnessed sales slump by 23.2 percent and 36 percent in the market over 2015. Samsung failed to make it to the top five list in China.
It is no surprise as OPPO, the Chinese electronics manufacturer, topped the Chinese smartphone market for the third quarter of the year 2016 in terms of shipment volumes. The company is growing in Pakistani market as from mere 3000 to 4000 units that it sold in a month in Pakistan, Oppo is reportedly importing over 25,000 mobile phones every month now.
The expansion of OPPO in the Pakistani market has got Huawei and Samsung in a whirlwind. The Chinese company has over 28 branded shops in Hafeez Centre alone while its phones are available at more than 90 retail stores in the market. It is trying to fill the gaps left by Huawei and Samsung through its products.
OPPO enhanced its visibility in the local market by featuring Hrithik Roshan and Sonam Kapoor through TV ads. It has big plans for their brand this year as can be seen by the amalgamation of fashion with OPPO by their partnership with the Pakistan’s biggest name in fashion Hassan Sheheryaar Yasin (HSY).
