The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has fined a local restaurant in Lahore with Rs. 5 million over trademark infringement, reports local media.
According to the details, an exotic restaurant in Lahore city, Options, which is owned by Options International (SMC-Pvt.) Limited was violating section 10 of the Competition Act, 2010. The restaurant was fraudulently using the logo of Starbucks, international coffee house chain.
Options restaurant was using the Starbucks logo on their coffee cups, billboards, signs, marketing campaign and on their social media platforms without any authorization.
Earlier in 2018, CCP had issued an interim order to Options restaurant and asked them to stop using the logo or they will face the legal actions. Starbucks had filed a written application to CCP before and proved that the logo is their trademark and the local restaurant in Lahore has never asked them for its limited rights.
Although Options restaurant has stopped using the Starbucks logo after the interim order and was complying with the CCP rules in the proceedings, the fine is slapped due to the loss occurred to the popular coffee chain.
Options restaurant is also directed to post newspapers ads regarding their fraudulent use of the trademark and convey to the general public that they were not associated with the Starbucks.
