Pakistanis living in Dubai can now apply for the passports and NICOP (National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis) easily without having to stand in the long queues. The Pakistan Consulate General in Dubai has created an online appointment system for the people to let them easily book appointments to apply for the passports and NICOP.
For booking date, the Pakistanis living in Dubai and northern emirates can book the appointments by visiting the website, www.mofa.gov.pak/Dubai. Moreover, those living in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain and want to visit Pakistan can book an appointment online to apply for their visas at their convenience. They can do this by visiting www.pakistanembassyuae.org.
Although the website of the online appointment system is very easy to understand and has a user-friendly interface, the consulate will continue to accept the applications by hand for the people who don’t know how to use the Internet. Previously, people had to stand in the long queues for hours to get their passports and ID cards renewed. The consulate has the room for handling 400 people, but more than 1,500 people visit it daily, Gulf News reported.
The Consulate is in contact with the authorities in Pakistan and centres in Dubai, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah to provide such services at their buildings. The administration has suggested that the people should come to the consulate at least 15 minutes before the actual timing of the appointment. The entire system takes 30 minutes for completing the procedure, which includes taking the biometric scans and capturing the photographs.
Other than this, the consulate has also initiated a bus service from the Pakistan Community Centre in Ras Al Khaimah to the Pakistani Consulate in Dubai for helping the Pakistanis to commute quickly.
The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) is developing a software system to handle the new online process. The system is in its final stages of development and will launch soon. On the other hand, Pakistanis can also alternatively apply for their NICOP directly by visiting NADRA’s website.
