It seems like the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) is getting very strict for the media channels who do not obey the rules. Recently, the authority has ordered the cable operators to stop the airing of the indecent advertisements, and now, a new development has just been revealed, concerning the false news reporting by some channels.
According to the details, as reported by the Nation, PEMRA has proposed imposing a fine of Rs. 500,000/- to the 92 News (HD) channel, which is owned by the M/s Galaxy Broadcast (Pvt.) Ltd. It is an Urdu-language news channel, headquartered in Lahore. The channel was launched just a year ago.
The fine is imposed for irresponsible and unverified reporting. PEMRA is imposing the penalty on this news channel after a complaint was launched by Mr. Asim Hussain through his legal advisor Mr. Anwar Mansoor Khan, Senior Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan.
On the other hand, the Council of PEMRA has also suggested issuing the Advice to the DAWN News, owned by M/s Aurora Broadcasting (Pvt) Ltd for not following the Code of Conduct in its talk show News Eye, which is hosted by Miss Mehar Bukhari.
PEMRA also says that DAWN News has not placed effective time delay system in its live shows.
The effective time delay is a system that is required to be installed by all the news channels in Pakistan. The system sets a period of time by which the airing of the live program is delayed for a few seconds, allowing the management to sensor the footage that may not be suitable for some of the viewers.
PEMRA has also suggested cancelling the licences of Karachi-based M/s N.N Cable TV Network and M/s Barlas Cable TV Network for not engaging in any kind of broadcasting and not revalidating their licenses after the end of the validity.
