Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi met Mr. Dara Khowsroshahi, CEO of Uber Technologies Inc. at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. Special Assistant to PM Mr. Ali Jehangir Siddiqui and senior government officials were also present.
The Prime Minister appreciated Uber for spearheading the model of a “sharing economy” and invited Uber to partner with Pakistani banks and the Prime Minister’s Youth Program to help drivers in financing vehicles for Uber.
Avenues and opportunities regarding effective participation by the ride-hailing company in Pakistan’s economy in a meaningful manner were also discussed during the meeting. The Prime Minister assured them that the market holds a lot of potential for them and can provide the commuters added value for money.
Uber Technologies Inc. is a global technology company, operational in 633 cities. It launched operations in Pakistan in March 2016 and is operational in 7 cities, providing income to 63,000 drivers, servicing 1.27 million riders.
The ride-hailing company made its first debut in 2016 in Pakistan and since has expanded its operations in various cities across Pakistan. Looking at the vehicle needs of the users, the company also introduced UberAuto, UberMini and UberX service for the people.
