porn websites in Pakistan

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked access to around 0.4 million porn websites in Pakistan.

The figures were revealed in a report submitted to Supreme Court on Thursday by Additional Attorney General (AAG) Nayyar Rizvi. The authorities have also blocked access to 9,846 proxies in the country.

According to PTA, the technical restraints makes it impossible to completely eradicate obscene material present on the Internet but by using alternative technical methods including different proxies they can cut down this issue.

In February, PTA informed the Islamabad High Court that they have blocked 23,558 blasphemous web links and 763, 202 porn websites in Pakistan

PTA has also established a Web Analysis Cell along the boundaries of the legal framework and directions issued by the federal government. People can report websites through PTA’s helpline, toll-free number, fax, post/web, form an official email address and the cell will, in turn, analyze and process the complaints.

The authorities acknowledged that they need to take the internet providers on board and educate the masses about using the Internet in the right way.

PTA is also working on developing an Internet Exchange Point (IXP), something that will help the local internet traffic to remain local which will facilitate the development of local content with the aim of providing the good user experience.
