Punjab Budget 2016-17: 9 billion allocated for various youth schemes

Provincial Finance Minister Ayesha Ghaus Pasha presented the Punjab budget of Rs. 1,681 billion for the fiscal year 2016-17 in the Punjab Assembly. The Chief Minister of Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif also attended the budget speech.

Youth Schemes

According to the budget, Rs. 4 billion have been allocated for distributing the Laptops to four lac students who are performing well in studies. Rs 3 billion have been assigned for the technical education of youth while Rs 2 billion have been allocated for the Youth Training program.

Rs 312.80 billion have been assigned to the education sector. Moreover, the state-of-the-art Information Technology (IT) labs will be created in the schools of Punjab, Ayesha Ghaus Pasha stated. The students will be able to research and perform experiments in these modern laboratories.

Other than this, the modern sports complex and gymnasiums will be introduced for the youth of Punjab. 136 new libraries will be created in the province.

Healthcare

For the healthcare sector, Rs.150 billion have been assigned. Healthcare Advancement budget specified at Rs 43 billion with an addition of 43%. New and state-of-the-art Intensive Care Units (ICUs) will be established in the hospitals.

Other than this, the drug testing laboratories in Lahore will be upgraded. In the Punjab budget speech, it was announced that the drug testing laboratories of the province will be integrated with that of the international standards.

The system of attendance has been computerized in all of the government offices in Punjab.

  • Rs 550 billion assigned to the development projects.
  • Rs 16 billion is allocated for urban development.
  • 10% increase in pensions and salaries.
  • Rs. 5.7 million for the women development projects.
  • 4% registration fee announced for vehicles over 2000 CC.

Other development projects

In the Punjab budget speech, it was announced that Rs 92 billion have been assigned to the transport sector. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha stated that the Orange Line Metro Train project in Lahore had opened new doors of employment for the people. Initially, 2.5 lac people will commute in it. Afterwards, five lac people will be able to travel in this train on a daily basis. The metro train will complete the journey of 2.5 hours in just 45 minutes.

On the other hand, the Metro bus service will be started in Multan very soon.

It was announced that the Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park will generate cheap, clean, and environment-friendly solar electricity. New power generation plants including the hydropower plants will also be created.

Rs 100 billion have been assigned to the police department. Moreover, most of the police stations have been computerised. Rs. 44 billion have been allocated for the advance Safe City Project, which has been introduced in Lahore, and will be further extended to the other cities in Punjab, very soon. Dolphin Squad has been created for the safety of the citizens and the prevention of the street crimes.

Modern agricultural machinery will also be introduced. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha stated that the internet-based job training program has also been started, in which, the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) will teach for free some 10,000 people in how to operate a computer.
