Punjab Wi-Fi Hotspots cannot be accessed from roads

Under the Digital Punjab Program, the provincial government is all set to provide wi-fi hotspots across Lahore, but apparently many people have been complaining about not getting coverage.

To address the issue at hand Dr. Umar Saif, Chairman of the Punjab IT Board took it to twitter and responded:

According to Dr. Umar Saif, the sign reading Punjab Wi-Fi Hotspot outside a building means that a person can get the Wi-Fi coverage in the public areas of that building like waiting areas of park, hospital, metro stations, railway stations etc.

He clarified that a person randomly passing on the road can not get access to the Internet and it really doesn’t  help out people driving by these signs. The project will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif will inaugurate The Punjab Wi-Fi project in 2-3 weeks.

The government of Punjab will provide more than 200 WiFi hotspots in Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi under the program Digital Punjab. It has already installed free WiFi routers at nearly 250 points in Lahore.
