Samsung amid corruption scandal

Samsung Executive President Chang Choong-ki was called in for questioning earlier today from the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office of South Korea. This inquest was based upon the recent corruption charges and different shady activities involving Samsung and its relationship with Ms Choi who is a close friend of the president.

Chong-ki was interrogated in Seoul and was asked about the alleged influence and activities of MS Choi in regards to finalisation of Samsung C&T and Cheil Industries merger last year. The same deal which was under investigation for insider trading. The Investor reports that Mr Chang denied any knowledge about company supporting Soon-sil or her daughter.

Samsung has been brought into the limelight amid South Korea’s current political scandal also termed as Choi-gate. The whole case is still untangling before the authorities, as they raided Samsung’s offices earlier this month. The company is suspected of funnelling $3.1million into German company owned by Soon-sil which pays for her daughter’s riding lessons.

On Saturday, Posco chief executive Kwon Oh-Joon was brought in for questioning corruption allegations surrounding the sale of company’s in-house advertising unit in 2014. Park Sang-Jin, Electronics president for corporate relation, was also called in to answer questions regarding money for Ms Choi’s equestrian training in Germany.

South Korean authorities are looking to wrap up this investigation soon thus, more information is soon expected to follow to uncover the hidden trail.
