To address the placement concerns of Samsung Galaxy S8 fingerprint sensor, Samsung may introduce the scanner at the front of the Galaxy S9 as we can see in the patent image provided by the GalaxyClub.

Patent image shows that there will be a circular cut at the bottom of the phone which will house the sensor. This fingerprint sensor notch looks more like the one Essential Phone has.

Earlier it was reported that Galaxy S9 would retain infinity display of Galaxy S8. Now, a round shape cut at the bottom also suggests that the Samsung Galaxy S9 might not have ‘full bezel-less display’ as we can see in Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus got rave reviews from critics when it was launched but many people criticized the device as the fingerprint sensor was relocated at the back, right next to the rear camera. This placement made it difficult for a user to unlock Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus devices without smudging the camera lens.

However, the provided patent application isn’t new and it was prepared in 2016. Moreover, patent ideas keep on changing and don’t get integrated all the time.

So, we could be hopeful that the new Samsung Galaxy S9 featuring Snapdragon 845 chipset would have a fingerprint sensor at the front, solving one of the most annoying features of Galaxy S8.
