This year again, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has started the SMS service for the issuance of the fresh currency notes to the public. The service is launched to help people in obtaining the new currency notes for the event of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The facility will be provided through 500 e-branches in 116 cities during Ramzan, 2016. The necessary stock of fresh currency notes has already been placed with the designated e-branches.

How to use SMS facility to get the fresh currency notes?

To use it, all you need to do is type your CNIC number<space>e-branch ID in an SMS and send it to 8877. Charges of sending an SMS to 8877 are Rs. 2 (plus tax). You can get the list of branch IDs from the official website of SBP, which is SBP(.)org(.)pk.

In reply to the SMS, the customer will get his/her redemption code, e-branch address and redemption code validity date. The redemption code will be valid for two working days. The person should then go to the concerned e-branch along with his/her original CNIC card, its photocopy and the redemption code received from 8877 to acquire the fresh notes.

It is important to mention here that the quota of new notes to be granted to each person consists of two packets of Rs. 10 and one package of Rs.20. (S)he may also acquire one packet each of Rs. 50 and Rs. 100 as per availability of stock with the concerned e-branch.

Under the SMS service, each CNIC number and mobile phone number can only be used once. No transaction code will be issued to the sender in case he/she sends the same CNIC/Smart card number from different mobile numbers or addresses different CNIC/Smart card numbers from same mobile number during the service.

However, this will result in additional cost to the sender. To facilitate the general public for their queries/complaints, SBP-BSC has established a help desk at 111-008-877 that can be accessed through NWD code of 042 for Punjab; 021 for Sindh and Balochistan and 051 for Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Helpdesk facility will only be available during office hours.
