PEMRA Bans Indian DTH, TV channels

Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered to ban the sale of Indian Direct-to-Home (DTH) service boxes in Pakistan. The boxes are used for watching digital satellite channels of the neighboring country in Pakistan.

Many Indian DTH boxes are available in the market including Tata Sky, Dish TV, Reliance, Videocon, Sun Direct and others. The apex court has ordered the relevant authorities to recover and confiscate the Indian DTH boxes while also directed to take legal actions against those who are involved in the business.

Although the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) banned the Indian DTH service in 2016, the retailers never paid heed to the orders. A committee has been formulated by the court which is tasked to conduct operations in the country within the next ten days.
