After the few initiatives that were taken by the government, we have seen that the private companies are marching down this road as well to create a better tomorrow for the country, Telenor Pakistan is among such organizations.

Last night in a colorful event we witnessed the graduation of 2nd Cohort of Telenor Velocity, an acceleration program by one of the largest telecom operators in Pakistan.

Six startups including;, Daastan, MicroPower Labs, Pakshine, Perkup and have completed the four-month program where Telenor Velocity provided them access to mentors and investors, co-working space, access to customers, online payment solutions and a chance to pitch for seed funding.

Irfan Wahab, CEO Telenor opened the graduation event and shared that “We at Telenor believe that we can do some degree of innovation within the company, but most of it needs to happen outside the company and Velocity is such platform that can provide opportunities to startups who already have a breakthrough product.”

He added, “Our key is to provide growth opportunities to startups and their founders by giving them access to over 40 million of our telecom customers, more than 20 million of banking customers, payment methods and physical distribution force.”

Dr. Umar Saif, Chairman PITB was also one of the esteemed guests who congratulated the startups for successfully completing cohort 2. He said; The reason I believe in entrepreneurship is not that I like technology but it is due to the fact that it is the only hope for the Pakistani youth to bring about a change and make a name for themselves in the world.”
