Picture messaging service Snapchat has said that it will soon introduce camera-equipped sunglasses called “Spectacles”. The company says it wants its users to see the world in a different way.
The US-based service, which has recently renamed itself as Snap Inc. is all set to enter into the hardware market by launching its sunglasses. These colored glasses will be launched at an expected price f $130 per pair.
“We´ve been working for the past few years to develop a totally new type of camera, capable of taking a day’s worth of Snaps on a single charge, and we integrated it seamlessly into a fun pair of sunglasses,” the company stated in a blog post.
These colored glasses will be able to record up to ten seconds of video. Wherever the wearer looks at will be recorded in the glasses and there will be a small button near the frames which the users can press to start another recording. The glasses will come in three colors, i.e., black, teal and coral.
The Spectacles will use the 115-degree-angle lens which will be very similar to the human eye. According to the company, these cameras will be the world’s smallest wireless video cameras. The company will soon announce the full specification of the Spectacles.
These unique camera-equipped sunglasses will connect to the Snapchat app via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and the users will be able to share their recordings on the social media.
Snapchat is one of the largest social networking services and people all around the world use it for sharing pictures and videos to their friends and family members. Three years ago, Facebook failed to purchase this company and has recently launched its own Snapchat-like service, exclusively for the teens.
