Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has received a single bid from Telenor Pakistan for spectrum auction of the Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) in Pakistan by the deadline of hrs on June 1 st, 2016 at 4:00 PM.
This is carried out in the light of procedure, requirements, and criteria laid down in the Information Memorandum (IM).
The 3G-4G spectrum which was left unsold in the Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) auction in 2014 will now be auctioned with complete transparency. Earlier, on the proposal of the Advisory Committee, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication had issued an official, authoritative instruction to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to organize the spectrum auction.
As there are no other bidders, Telenor Pakistan likely wins this spectrum.
It may be added that, by the timelines of the auction process, an information session with the prospective bidders including Mobilink, Telenor, World Call Multinet, was held on 23rd May 2016. PTA completed this procedure in an open and transparent manner, in line with the policy directive of the Ministry of IT and Telecom and rules of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA).
It is important to mention here that recently, Mobilink was merged with Warid Telecom. The Pakistan Mobile Communications Limited (Mobilink) have purchased Warid from Abu Dhabi group.
