MIUI 9 was in the beta-test phase for months, but recently Xiaomi has released it to its users worldwide. The MIUI 9’s new features were highlighted in an official event in India earlier this month. This stable build will be rolling out initially to the Redmi Note 4, the Mi Mix 2, and the Mi Max 2.

It is soon expected to land in Pakistan too. For this purpose, we have compiled the Top 9 features that are present in MIUI 9. Have a look:

A redefined notification panel

The notification panel can be termed as one of the biggest changes in MIUI 9 as it now supports quick replies and bundled notifications. MIUI 9 already has over 280 million users, and most of them are located in China.

Xiaomi, however, is rapidly climbing market charts outside of China, and along with that, the company is rolling out these additions to the global version of MIUI 9.

The notification panel has not been changed much design wise apart from the ability to reply to messages directly from the notification shade.

All-new image editor

The latest version of OS has a new photo editor with an intelligent background erase. This feature lets you remove background elements from an image, and it does a great job at it too. It has a beautify feature in this version as well that automatically adds various effects to your photos.

2x faster app load times with upgraded optimizations

Xiaomi has also implemented several fixes to improve apps load on MIUI 9, which includes a better background for memory management, dynamic resource allocation, and other cool features.

In this area, MIUI 9 feels considerably faster than it’s previous versions, moreover, in latency tests, Xiaomi’s user Interface was found to be really close to pure Android when it came to loading apps.

New Mi Video app

A new Mi Video app has also introduced with MIUI 9. This app automatically groups videos from the same TV show and merges it into a single folder. It can let you load multilingual subtitles, and also supports extensive lists of file formats.

The Video privacy feature can hide videos in a private folder, customize the text size of subtitles, take screenshots and also make use of gestures to seek forward/backward within a video.

Mi-Drop is much improved this time

The file transfer utility, Mi Drop has a new identity. It has been given a new logo and is now available for all Android devices, Xiaomi and others. The new tool can transfer files of any type, and if a transfer gets interrupted, you also have the option to resume it. The interface has also been improved with an introduction of Send/Receive button.

Split screen

Xiaomi had added a split screen feature in MIUI 9 which allows you to work in split screen mode by selecting a button in the multitasking pane. You can also resize windows through this feature.

App shortcuts

Xiaomi’s MIUI 9, gives you shortcuts for frequently used apps, along with the notes app, score updates for various sports, calendar events, and more.
News coming up in the feed is customizable, and you will also be able to quickly launch Paytm from there as well.

Exclusive themes and sticker packs

There is a new theme in MIUI 9 this time by the name of Limitless. Xiaomi is making it available as the default theme on its devices running the latest OS. However, it is also available in the theme store.

Additionally, MIUI 9 is also picking up sticker packs, and you get 12 sticker sets in the Gallery app. Icon animations are also being added by Xiaomi and a few popular third-party apps like Instagram, Facebook, and UC Browser will get animated icons.

Calendar with cards for holidays

The all-new Calendar in MIUI 9 features cards that let you view any upcoming holidays and festivals. You can get news updates, subscribe to sports schedules, revisit news from the past and more.

Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 shows a lot of promise with some smart upgrades.  The Chinese manufacturer has now become a global name in the smartphone industry, and stats show that “Xiaomi makes one phone every second in India.”
